An extensive internet failure has impacted many sites and apps globally, with users reporting problems accessing the internet following issues at the cloud computing platform.
The affected platforms encompass the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and the language learning app Duolingo, as well as a host of Amazon-operated operations including its primary shopping platform and the Ring doorbell device manufacturer.
Across the United Kingdom, Lloyds bank was affected along with its branches Halifax and Bank of Scotland, with also reports of problems reaching the HM Revenue and Customs online portal on that morning. Additionally in Britain, multiple Ring device owners used online platforms to state their doorbells were not working.
In the UK alone, reports of disruptions on specific applications reached the thousands for every service.
The company stated that the outage started in the eastern region of the America at AWS, a section that offers essential web framework for numerous businesses, who utilize space on AWS infrastructure. The cloud platform is the most extensive online services platform.
Just after the start of the day (PDT) in the America (morning UK time), the company announced “increased problem frequencies and delays” for AWS services in a region on the eastern US of the US. The cascading impact was seen to hit services worldwide, and the outage tracking website showing problems with the corresponding services in multiple continents.
The monitoring service Thousand Eyes, a platform that tracks web disruptions, additionally noted a surge in problems on Monday morning, with many of them situated in Virginia, the site of the eastern US data center where AWS said the issues started.
