Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
